Bates Road

Bates Road is a short street that goes through three Montreal boroughs: Côte-des-Neiges, Ville de Mont-Royal and Outremont. The diversity of these boroughs can be clearly seen not only through the distinct street signs, but through the constant flux of the architectural landscape as well. What once was an industrial area of the outskirts of the city is becoming residential with modern buildings while abandoned structures wait to be transformed. The industrial places that once dominated the area are gradually becoming outdated and out of place.

As a commuter, I began to take an interest in the little details of Bates road, and wondered who else noticed them. Who will remember it as it was a year ago, or as it is today? Who is aware of the changes happening on a rather banal street? Bates road no longer looks as it did at the beginning of this project. These photographs no longer describe it accurately, only as what it was in the winter of 2011.
